About the Owner
Hi, I’m Thomas Main, founder of The Main Detail. I was born and raised in Western Connecticut, and cars have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Growing up, my dad worked as a Mopar mechanic. I used to visit him at the shop and remember being completely fascinated by everything around me. The tools, engines, unique sound of pneumatic impact guns, and even the smell of oil and gasoline. That smell remains strangely comforting to this day. It reminds me of where this all started.
One memory that’s always stayed with me is seeing a first-generation blue Dodge Viper with white stripes sitting outside the shop. The long hood, curves, and presence captivated me. It felt larger than life. I was hooked from that moment on. Cars weren’t just modes of transportation to me; they were art, engineering, and personality all rolled into one.
As I got older, my dad would take me to Lime Rock Park here in Northwest Connecticut. I loved hearing the cars thunder down the back straight and power uphill through West Bend, but was equally as intrigued simply walking the parking lots. Studying the supercars and classics, noticing the paint colors, the stance, the details that made each one special.
In my late teens and early twenties, my older brother introduced me to European car shows, which sparked a deep appreciation for BMWs and Volvos. I still remember obsessing over the Flash Green V70Rs with Atacama interiors and the simple yet elegant design of E46 M3s. The bold colors and thoughtful design of the late 90s and early 2000s left a lasting impression on me. My appreciation for automotive beauty has only grown stronger throughout my life.
Throughout my 15 year career in aerospace and industrial manufacturing, I’ve led teams, worked directly with customers, and built a reputation around reliability and attention to detail. These industries require precision and accountability. That background shaped my professional working style and is central to how I’ve developed this company.
